1. Eligibility
Certain Sunrun customers who are taking electric service from Clean Power Alliance (CPA) that do not have a dual-participation disqualification are eligible, and will be auto-enrolled, in the CA DSGS program. This program is administered by Sunrun as part of a statewide battery incentive program overseen and funded by the California Energy Commission (CEC).
Customers who are deemed eligible will receive an email invitation from Sunrun with a link to a simple online opt-out process.
2. Unspecified Consent
Unless you choose to opt out, Sunrun hereby acknowledges your consent to participate in this Program. As a participant, you agree that your enrollment is voluntary and that you have read and acknowledged these Terms and Conditions.
3. Program Opt Out
The CA DSGS program intends to begin dispatching batteries for events beginning May 1st. Customers must opt out before April 21st to be removed from the program before it launches.
At any time during the program, if you wish to stop participating, you can unenroll by contacting Sunrun at grid_ops@sunrun.com. If you decide to opt out you may forfeit your rewards.
4. Dual Participation Disqualification
Enrollment is subject to the CEC’s review and approval. Your battery cannot participate in the CA DSGS program if certain hardware in your home is already enrolled in: 1) the Emergency Load Reduction (ELRP) Program, 2) the Base Interruptible Program, or 3) any other CAISO, utility, CCA, or state program that compensates you for the same reduction in use of electricity, including energy export.
5. Participation Requirements
Sunrun will submit all eligible customers who have not submitted an opt-out request by April 30th to the CEC for review and confirmation. Sunrun will notify you of your confirmation to participate or if you are unable to participate at this time.
Participation in the CA DSGS Program does not require any additional service calls to your home or any hardware modifications to your battery system. Additionally, nothing will be required of you when the Program concludes. Any operational changes will be made by Sunrun automatically.
6. Program Term
The CA DSGS Program operates each year for the summer season - between May 1st and October 31st - beginning in May 2024 and continuing for as many years as the CEC provides funding for this Program.
For the first operating year in 2024, eligible Sunrun customers will be able to participate for a shortened season, beginning on May 1st and ending by October 31st.
Nothing will be required of you when the Program concludes. Your battery will automatically resume pre-program behavior. You will receive an invitation to automatically renew your participation (if the program is renewed) earning you more rewards in future Program years.
7. Battery Operations
As a participant, Sunrun will control and monitor your battery’s system, providing a completely hassle-free experience.
We’ll receive signals from the CEC when the grid is expecting high demand, which will trigger an “event”. We’ll then send power from your battery to your home and the grid, but we'll always reserve energy to provide backup power. Throughout the Program, Sunrun will maintain a backup reserve of 20% of your battery strictly for backup power in the event of an outage.
No more than 36 events will be called during a single program year. The event will start no earlier than 4:00 p.m. PT and end no later than 9:00 p.m. PT. During non-event days, your battery will automatically resume pre-program behavior.
Sunrun may conduct up to 10 additional tests annually on your battery to confirm system functionality, for which you will receive your regular net metering credits.
Neither the CEC nor the program administrator – Olivine Inc. – will have access to or control of your battery. If you determine any battery deficiency, problem, or operational issue, or want to no longer participate in the Program, you must contact Sunrun directly at grid_ops@sunrun.com.
8. Incentive Payment
Confirmed participants of the CA DSGS program who receive confirmation in May 2024 are entitled to receive a one-time enrollment incentive payment of $100 for participation in the 2024 Season. Upon receipt of your confirmation of participation, you will receive an email from Sunrun Rewards Center with instructions to obtain a pre-paid VISA gift card by mail or electronic delivery. Sunrun reserves the right to report all payments as income where required by law.
9. Automatic Annual Renewal
If the CA DSGS program is renewed in 2025 or beyond, Sunrun will notify you of additional program offerings and incentives. Your participation may be automatically renewed on an annual basis and you will have the option to opt-out before the next season begins, or at any time during the program.
10. Privacy and Data Sharing
Participating in this program means you consent to Sunrun sharing your account and battery system operational data with CEC and Olivine Inc. (DSGS’s program administrator) for 5 years from the effective date, as needed for program administration, renewed annually (if the program is renewed) in accordance with the automatic annual renewal policy. The CEC is a state agency that must comply with the Information Practice Act (IPA).
As a reminder, Sunrun will handle any personal information or data according to our privacy policy.
