1. Eligibility
PG&E, SDG&E, and SCE customers who are deemed eligible will receive an email invitation from Sunrun with a link to a simple online opt-out process. Eligibility is based on a number of battery characteristics, among other pre-qualification factors. For more information on eligibility criteria, please contact Sunrun at grid@sunrun.com. This program is administered by Sunrun as part of a statewide battery incentive program overseen and funded by the California Energy Commission (CEC).
2. Unspecified Consent
Unless you choose to opt out, Sunrun hereby acknowledges your consent to participate in this Program. As a participant, you agree that your enrollment is voluntary and that you have read and acknowledged these Terms and Conditions.
3. Unenrollment
If you would like to opt out of the program at any point, please email grid@sunrun.com. If you opt out prior to the end of the program term, you may no longer be eligible for the incentive amount for participation in Sunrun CalReady.
4. Dual Participation Disqualification
Enrollment is subject to the CEC’s review and approval. Your battery cannot participate in the CA DSGS program if certain hardware in your home is already enrolled in: 1) the Emergency Load Reduction (ELRP) Program, 2) the Base Interruptible Program, or 3) any other CAISO, utility, CCA, or state program that compensates you for the same reduction in use of electricity, including energy export.
5. Participation Requirements
Sunrun will submit all eligible customers who have not submitted an opt-out request by April 18th to the CEC for review and confirmation.
Participation in the CA DSGS Program does not require any additional service calls to your home or any hardware modifications to your battery system. Additionally, nothing will be required of you when the Program concludes. Any operational changes will be made by Sunrun automatically.
6. Program Term
The CA DSGS Program operates each year for the summer season, between May 1 and October 31, and continues for as many years as the CEC provides funding for this Program.
For the 2025 season, eligible Sunrun customers will be able to participate from May 1, 2025 to October 31, 2025.
Nothing will be required of you during operation and when the Program concludes. Your battery will automatically resume pre-program behavior. You will receive an invitation to automatically renew your participation (if the program is renewed) earning you more rewards in future Program years.
7. Battery Operations
As a participant, Sunrun will control and monitor your battery’s system, providing a completely hassle-free experience.
We will receive signals from the CEC when the grid is expecting high demand, which will trigger an “event.” We will then send power from your battery to your home and the grid, but we'll always reserve energy to provide backup power for backup batteries. Backup battery systems will keep a reserve of 20% for grid events.
No more than 35 events will be called during a single program year. The event will last for 1-2 hours between 4:00 p.m. PST and 9:00 p.m. PST. On event days, your device settings may be overridden to satisfy event requirements. On non-event days, your battery will continue its default settings.
Your battery system will not send any energy to the grid during an outage. Storm Mode (an automatic Sunrun setting for LG and SolarEdge batteries) or Storm Watch (if enabled in the Tesla app for Powerwall) will keep you prepared for storms.
Once the program term is complete batteries will resume normal modes of operation. However, in regions with active grid services programs, Sunrun will automatically enroll your device in available programs. Please refer to your Sunrun Customer Agreement for additional details.
Sunrun may conduct up to 10 additional tests annually on your battery to confirm system functionality, for which you will receive your regular net metering credits. Only Sunrun will have access to or control of your battery.
8. Incentive Payment
Confirmed participants of the CA DSGS program who receive an email notification prior to season start, and remain successfully enrolled through the season, are entitled to receive a one-time enrollment incentive payment of $100 per battery or $150 per battery, depending on the participant’s Net Energy Metering (NEM) Rate determined at enrollment. At the end of the program season, you will receive an email from Sunrun with instructions to obtain your incentive payment via reward card. Early termination prior to October 31, 2025 may result in a forfeit of the full incentive amount. Sunrun reserves the right to report all payments as income where required by law.
9. Privacy and Data Sharing
Participating in this program means you consent to Sunrun sharing your account and battery system operational data with CEC and Olivine Inc. (DSGS’s program administrator) for 5 years from the effective date, as needed for program administration, renewed annually (if the program is renewed). The CEC is a state agency that must comply with the Information Practice Act (IPA). As a reminder, Sunrun will handle any personal information or data according to our privacy policy.
10. Additional Terms
Participation in this program will not affect your service. If you have additional questions about the Program, feel free to reach out to our customer care team at Grid@Sunrun.com.
These Terms and Conditions may change from time to time; the date of last revision is identified below. Your continued enrollment in the program acknowledges changes to the Terms and Conditions which means you accept those changes, so please check back periodically for updates. You will be notified if there are material changes related to program operations or termination of this program.
