Step 1:

From the home screen open the ‘Settings’ menu.

Step 2:

Select ‘Powerwall’ at the top of the screen.

Step 3:

You can adjust your backup reserve at the top of the screen. 20% is generally recommended, however during the month of September you may want to lower your reserve more than usual to optimize savings. For Operational Mode, select ‘Time-Based Control’.

Step 4:

Click on ‘Utility Rate Plan’ under ‘Time Based Control’. Select your ‘State’ and select your ‘Utility’.

Step 5:

Select your ‘Rate Plan’. For PG&E, select 'E-ELEC-NEM3'. For SCE, select 'SCE-TOU-D-PRIME-NEM3'. For SDG&E, select 'SDGE-EV-TOU-5-NEM3'.

Step 6:

After selecting your rate plan, tap ‘Done’.

Step 7:

To enable Powerwall to take advantage of times when the utility gives high value for kWhs sent to the grid (mostly 6-8pm in August and September), scroll below ‘Time Based Control’ to ‘Energy Export’ and toggle to ‘Everything.’

Step 8:

If you have Powerwall 3 or Powerwall+, be sure that "Permission to Export" under "Advanced Options" is set to "Yes."
